I was first introduced to yoga through my Mum at a time when I was stressed with exams. She knew that yoga would give me the space to relax, breathe, and reconnect with myself (Mums always know best). I went to a few classes with her and instantly fell in love. I couldn’t believe that something as simple as focusing on my breath and moving mindfully could be so nourishing, restorative, and deeply healing.
As life carried on through University and into my career as a Primary Teacher, I dipped in and out of different classes such as Hatha Yoga and Yin Yoga. I always knew that yoga was a game-changer for me, but like so many people, I often put self-care at the bottom of my list.
Around 2017, I reached a point where I knew things had to change. I wasn’t happy with the direction of my personal life, and my mental health had suffered. I found a fantastic yoga class at my local gym in Inverurie, and this is where my true passion for the practice began to grow.
My sleep improved, my energy lifted, and my confidence blossomed. More importantly, I began to feel more aligned with myself, and I could no longer ignore what wasn’t serving me. That is the quiet power of yoga; it gently reveals the truth and helps you find clarity.
Yoga changed my life in so many ways that I felt called to share it with others. Naturally, as a teacher, I saw how much children could benefit, so I trained as a children’s yoga teacher with the wonderful LKY Yoga School, qualifying in late 2019. Sharing restorative yoga practices and mindful movement with the children in my school filled me with joy, especially seeing their confidence and calmness grow.
I wanted to take my learning further, so I completed my 200-hour teacher training with LKY Yoga School. This deepened my own practice of Hatha Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and Yin Yoga, and gave me the tools to offer these calming practices to others. It was a transformative experience that enhanced every area of my life, and I couldn’t wait to share that gift.
The beauty of yoga is that it really is for everyone. Whether you come to it for the physical benefits of Hatha Yoga, the soothing stillness of Yin Yoga, or the gentle healing of Restorative Yoga, there is something here for everybody and every stage of life. I also love creating private yoga events in Inverurie. These are bespoke sessions designed to bring people together in a safe, calming space where they can relax, recharge, and connect.
As a mum of a toddler and now the owner of a very energetic puppy, life can be full and busy, but yoga always brings me back home to myself. It reminds me to slow down, breathe, and find stillness in the moment.
I can’t wait to share more of this journey with you in the months and years to come, through Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and beautiful private yoga events here in Inverurie.
